JSPF: A Trusted Partner in Achieving the SDGs and Social Contribution Activities
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2016, emphasizing the collective responsibility of governments, international organizations, NGOs, and businesses. Companies with technological, human, and financial resources play a crucial role in expanding social contribution activities to help achieve these global goals.
In response to a request from the residents of Habagatan, Barangay, Binangonan, Rizal Province, Philippines, the Japan Science Promotion Foundation (JSPF) launched the Talim Island Development Project.
As a corporate social responsibility (CSR) partner, JSPF collaborates with individuals, companies, and organizations to contribute to and achieve the SDGs.
Support Methods for Individuals, Companies, and Organizations
The Talim Island Development Project consists of seven programs, each with different ways to contribute. JSPF will propose appropriate initiatives based on your organization’s interests and goals.
Compulsory Education Support Program
A sponsorship program for schoolchildren from underprivileged families, where companies and organizations can support students enrolled in public schools under their name.
JSPF collaborates with teachers who are familiar with students’ home environments to identify those in need, including: 1
Students who do not receive government welfare but struggle to continue schooling
Students who receive welfare but still lack sufficient financial support for education
Sponsors provide school uniforms and shoes to ensure these children can attend school.

Background: Education in the Philippines
Compulsory education spans 13 years (ages 5–18)
The K-12 system (adopted in 2012) extended the previous 6-4 structure (6 years of elementary, 4 years of secondary) to a 6-4-2 system, including one year of kindergarten
Public school tuition is free, but monthly costs for students (stationery, special textbooks, event fees, uniforms, shoes, and bags) can total 9,000 pesos (approx. 23,065 yen) annually
School lunches are rarely provided, and many students bring meals from home. In poor households, one meal per day is common, and many children suffer from malnutrition
Donors can choose a specific cause or allow funds to be used for the most urgent needs.
